Paris St Germain, possible Galacticos next season

Slowly but surely, french first division clubside Paris St Germain are hoping to be the Galacticos of France this coming footbqll season. Since the club changed hands to the top guns of Qatar, they are reportedly planning a heavy summer shopping list with top names like Samuel Eto’o, Dimitar Berbatov and a host of others.

It is unquestionable that Paris Saint-Germain were rated by Uefa’s coefficients as the best club in Europe during a remarkable period in the 1990s, when players such as George Weah, David Ginola, Rai and Nicolas Anelka all turned out on a regular basis at the Parc des Princes. After a period of decline, les Parisiens are set to once again make their mark on European football, with the likely future acquisition of France international Kevin Gameiro the first significant marker on their return to the big time.

This is no fairytale romance, though; it is a story of financial muscle, so readily associated with modern football. Qatar Investment Authority purchased 70 per cent of the club at the end of May, promising major summer signings, with a figure of €50 million (£44.2m) the very least they are expected to splash out over the course of the next two months.

Inevitably, this has led to a flurry of rumours in the media regarding potential recruits, all of whom are well-established names in the European footballing landscape.

Of the players associated with the Parisian outfit, arguably no name is bigger than that of Inter striker Samuel Eto’o, though Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan is another to have been linked with the French outfit, while a rumour suggesting the club could be interested in Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov was quickly dismissed
