The stalemate meant Zinedine Zidane’s ‘los Blancos’ are now 9 points aloof of Barcelona with barely 13 games left in the Spanish La Liga calendar.
Ronaldo’s first-half spot kick was stopped by Cameroon’s veteran shot-stopper Idriss Carlos Kameni, denying Real the chance to go two goals up before the break.
Raul Albentosa punished Ronaldo by bagging home the decisive equalizer during the second half.
The draw for Zinedine Zidane meant it was only his second time to drop points as Real Madrid coach.
“It is obviously going to be difficult because we have dropped two points, but we won’t give up,” said Zidane.
This is not the first time Ronaldo has failed to score on the spot against Kameni. In April 2015 the Cameroonian was on fire as he denied Ronaldo though he ended up scoring later in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Malaga.
