YAOUNDE-. Monday , 10TH SEPT 2012

The triumphant entry of Cameroon‘s first lady Chantal Biya alongside her darling husband, Paul Biya has left everyone from Yaounde, Douala, Bamenda and possibly everywhere completely moonstruck.

As their plane touched the soil at the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport in the afternoon of Monday , 10th Sept, 2012, doubting Thomases, onlookers and sympathisers had gathered around the airport mimicking the biblical entry of Jesus into Jerusalem only that in the case the spotlight fell on ‘Chantu’.

Chantal Biya, ‘a true crowd puller’

As Mr Biya and wife drove down the streets of Yaounde, a crowd had gathered almost at every corner to catch a glimpse of Mrs Biya by themselves. The First-Couple to make things look interesting had to alight from the car and walk about 700 meters before entry the Glass House of Etoudi.

Its true that people must and will always talk. After all my colleague George Ewane of the CRTV was absolutely right, ‘if Paul Biya were Barack Obama, Chantal Biya was obviously his Michelle,’.

The Unity Palace had shun all rumours refusing to release an official statement as rumours insisted that Chantal was last spotted on the 8th of March ‘International Day of the Women’. This time we just have to watch and observe keenly for what the papers might say tomorrow.
