Wafo Nestor is said to have caused her death on presidential election day on October 9 in Keng village, near Bandjoun.
Gendarmes in Bandjoun, Koung-Khi Division of the West Region have arrested 50-year old Wafo Nestor, alias ‘Ben Laden’, suspected to have caused the death of 54-year old Mrs Djemo Virginie, said to be a militant of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party on October 9 in Keng Village, Bandjoun, shortly after the polling station that hosted voting for the presidential election had closed.
According to the Bandjoun Gendarmerie ‘Brigade’ Commander, Konde Raymond, Wafo Nestor was picked up on Monday November 14 in Tonkue Village, located between Bayangam in Koung-Khi and Bangou in the Upper Plateau Divisions along the Bafoussam-Yaounde highway as he attempted to board a public transport car for Yaounde.
Talking to the press in the presence of the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Koung-Khi, Obate Jacques and the First Deputy Mayor of Pete-Bandjoun, the suspect admitted to have punched Mrs Djemo Virginie in the lower part of her abdomen after a disagreement at the polling station. He said when he learnt of the passing away of Mrs Djemo at about 1 am, he decided to go into hiding for fear of being lynched.
Wafo Nestor further admitted that he was an ex-convict from the Nkongsamba Secondary Prison, insisting that he was jailed for theft, not murder or trafficking in human parts as claimed by security forces. It should be recalled that the CPDM last November 5 organised a befitting burial for Mrs Djemo Virginie.
Wafo Nestor is expected to be presented to the Senior State Counsel for the Bafoussam High Court in the days, explained Konde Raymond.
